THE VIETNAM WAR IN “TEN YEARS THAT SHOOK THE CITY: SAN FRANCISCO 1968-78″

PRESIDIO DIALOGUES – Thursday Evenings at 7 pm
Notable authors, artists, and conversation starters explore themes from ancient history to current events through interactive dialogues, stimulating talks, panels, performances, and films.

The Presidio Book Club selection for November 2015, Ten Years That Shook the City: San Francisco 1968-1978, an award-winning collection of first-person and historical essays spanning this tumultuous decade, shows how various social, environmental, and labor movements shook and shaped the City as we know it today.

Barbara Berglund, Presidio Trust historian; the book’s editor Chris Carlsson; photographer Stephen Rees; and poster archivist Lincoln Cushing will discuss the book’s stories of various Bay Area intersections with the Vietnam War. This includes GIs organizing against the war and anti-war newspapers that helped to inform the public and end the war, local poster activism of the period, and the story of the “Presidio 27.”

Ten Years That Shook the City, presented by Shaping San Francisco, was published in 2011 by City Lights Books and won the Gold Medal in Notable Contribution to Publishing from the Commonwealth Club of California in 2012.
