Sponsored by the SF Museum of Modern Art, celebrating its founding in 1935, this will be a brief tour and lecture of the Anton Refregier murals at the Rincon Annex at Steuart and Mission Streets in San Francisco. I’ll focus it on the relationship between public art and labor in the 1930s and 1940s using the Rincon Annex Refregier murals as the case study… and I’ll talk more broadly about labor history given its illustration in the various panels therein, as well as connecting it to the present day in which we no longer imagine there is a working class, let alone that we are members of it!…
